Coleman Andrews
Chief Executive Officer & Co-Owner
Coleman is the Founder, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Owner of RMWC, managing strategies primarily in private credit markets. RMWC’s strategies benefit from Coleman’s diverse experience at Bain Capital and Bain & Company, his prior experience as CEO of global companies, and his observations gained and lessons learned through several economic and market cycles.
Coleman is a member of the Board of Directors of the DAPER Investment Fund, a co-investment fund of the Stanford Management Company, the entity which directs the investment of approximately $26 billion of endowment and related funds for Stanford University. Coleman served for 15 years as a global advisor to Trilantic Capital Partners, a top-decile private equity firm managing $6.0 billion of assets. Coleman is also an active board member of Achungo Children’s Center in western Kenya, where he participates in teaching, tutoring, and mentoring the orphans and vulnerable children of Achungo, as well as in setting and overseeing the strategic and financial direction of entity.
Coleman was Co-Founding Partner of Bain Capital, one of the nation’s pre-eminent private equity firms. During his nine-year tenure at Bain Capital and Bain & Company, he progressed from Associate to Partner of Bain & Company during a key stage in the development of the international strategy consulting firm, before teaming with Mitt Romney on the successful planning, launch, capital raising, and fund investments of Bain Capital.
In 1998, Coleman was recruited by the government of President Nelson Mandela to lead as CEO the complex, challenging, and controversial turnaround of South African Airways, a global company with 10,500 employees and operations in 34 countries. While he was CEO, the market value of South African Airways increased from R1.5 billion to R7.0 billion. He founded a training trust, which awarded university scholarships to promising disadvantaged students, and sponsored a skills training center for women in Johannesburg’s Alexandra township. From 1995-1997, Coleman ran for the office of Lt. Governor of Virginia. He was appointed by Governor George Allen to Virginia’s Commission for Citizen Empowerment, which developed the strategy that led to a successful overhaul of Virginia’s welfare policies. From 1986-1997, Coleman was Chairman/CEO of World Airways, where he led a successful turnaround while navigating the effects of the Gulf War and a severe industry recession.
RMWC was initially developed during Coleman’s tenure from 2005 to 2010 as Chairman and CEO of Rocky Mountain Capital, a financial services enterprise with investment management and banking interests.
Coleman was awarded the Civilian Desert Shield/Desert Storm Air Medal by the United States Air Force for his volunteer service in the war zone during the 1990/1991 Gulf War. He served in The White House from 1975 to 1977, where he advanced from a summer intern to a Presidential appointment by Gerald R. Ford to the staff of the President’s Economic Policy Board.
He holds an M.B.A. from Stanford University, where he was named an Arjay Miller Scholar, and holds a B.A. from Dartmouth College, High Honors in Economics, magna cum laude, where he was a Rufus Choate Scholar.
Steven Fischler
Chief Investment Officer & Co-Owner
Steven is the Chief Investment Officer and Co-Owner of RMWC, managing the Firm’s real estate investment strategies. Steven oversees the origination, underwriting and asset management team and he directs RMWC’s Investment Committee.
Prior to joining RMWC in 2020, Steven started his career at Lehman Brothers in 2004 and worked in the commercial real estate group through 2011. After Lehman’s bankruptcy in September 2008, Steven was retained by the bankruptcy experts managing the Lehman Estate to specialize in condominium and mixed-use project workouts. From 2008-2011, Steven managed over 200 investments and oversaw some of the most complicated Lehman real estate investments, such as Canyon Ranch Miami Beach where he completed a deed-in-lieu of foreclosure, restarted a sales & marketing campaign to sell the unsold condominium units, implemented a seller financing program and restructured the hotel management agreement with Canyon Ranch. Steven also completed workouts, restructurings, foreclosures and recovery strategies on Lehman’s investment properties including condominiums, multi-family, hospitality, retail, golf courses and other types of commercial real estate across the US.
After Lehman, Steven founded SRF Ventures, a boutique real estate advisory firm, and co-founded New Gables Capital, a private commercial real estate lender. Since 2011, Steven has successfully built both enterprises by advising on, asset managing, and/or originating over $3+ billion of real estate loans and investments, primarily in Top 30 metropolitan markets across the US.
Steven holds an M.S. in Real Estate Finance, with distinction, from New York University, and a B.B.A. from the University of Miami.
Jonathan Cohen
Managing Director
Jonathan joined the RMWC team in 2023 as the Managing Director of Finance. He comes from Brookfield Asset Management after serving as Senior Vice President in Brookfield’s Real Estate Group managing assets in the Alternatives Real Estate sector. While there, he directed business decisions for assets held in the portfolio company bought from Lehman Brothers, including advising on strategies, capital investments and monetization to optimize returns, which outperformed expectations. He also co-led the asset management team for Brookfield’s initial foray into senior housing.
Before transitioning to Brookfield, Jonathan was the Senior Vice President of Global Real Estate Finance and Operations of Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. for nine years where hebuilt and led the real estate finance and operations team to support the management and ultimate monetization of Lehman’s global real estate business post-bankruptcy. Prior to that role, he led the finance team for five years at Lehman Brothers Inc, as Senior Vice President and Global Real Estate CFO supporting a $65 billion commercial real estate portfolio. Known as a relationship builder, he forged a partnership with the investments team to engage in insightful discussions to appropriately value real estate assets in Lehman’s books and records.
Jonathan’s career started in public accounting and, while at Kenneth Leventhal, which was subsequently acquired by EY, he was an integral part of many audit teams. He also worked in the financial advisory practice and, most notably, directed the due diligence and valuation process for the Resolution Trust Corporation’s first two groundbreaking non-performing commercial mortgage securitizations.
He brings strong real estate knowledge gained over 35 years, accounting skills and management capabilities honed in industry-leading financial services firms, offering solutions to challenges. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Binghamton University.
Curt Riggs
Managing Director
Curt Riggs is Managing Director for Underwriting & Asset Management of RMWC and is responsible for underwriting new opportunities and asset managing existing investments.
Curt has over 12 years of commercial real estate experience, virtually all of which was developed under the mentorship of Steven Fischler. He joined RMWC in 2020. Since 2016, Curt has focused on originating, underwriting and asset management assignments on a range of office, retail, and mixed-use properties in Top 30 markets across the US. From 2012 through 2016, he completed a succession of complex underwriting projects on multiple asset classes. Curt has been involved in the advisory, asset management and/or origination of over $2.7 billion since 2012. Between 2009 and 2011, Curt rose through a series of project management positions while working on post-bankruptcy Lehman Estate loan recoveries in the South Florida real estate market. Curt served as an analyst, then as a construction manager on a luxury condominium property.
Curt holds a B.S. in Economics from the University of Washington, with a certificate in Environmental & Natural Resource/Commodity Economics.
Mike Bontumasi
Managing Director
Mike has been engaged to serve as Managing Director (via a professional services agreement with Manistee Capital LLC) for Origination, Underwriting & Asset Management of RMWC and is responsible for presenting investment opportunities, underwriting potential opportunities and asset managing existing investments.
Mike has over 15 years of commercial real estate experience, with a focus on origination, underwriting and asset management assignments across all asset classes, and across debt and equity investing, within the US. Prior to founding Manistee Capital LLC, Mike spent four years at Ladder Capital underwriting and originating fixed and floating rate debt opportunities, as well as asset managing both equity and debt positions within the firm. In addition, Mike has completed various foreclosures, workouts, loan restructurings, and dispositions on both debt and equity positions. Prior to Ladder Capital, Mike has held various positions within commercial real estate lending platforms including: Vice President at Société Générale, Director at Cantor Fitzgerald and Vice President at PNC Bank. To date, Mike has been involved in the origination, underwriting and asset management of over $3.0 billion in commercial real estate debt and equity transactions.
Mike holds an M.S. in Real Estate Finance from New York University and a B.S. from Northern Michigan University.
Michael Rubenstein
Managing Director
Michael joined RMWC at its inception in 2008 and serves as a Managing Director and Portfolio Manager for RMWC’s multi-strategy private credit vehicle. Michael joined Coleman Andrews in 2007 in the formative stages of RMWC and was closely involved in the construction of the multi-strategy vehicle in 2011, and served as its Director of Research from 2012 launch through March 2020. Michael has also been very active in RMWC’s direct lending strategy and coordinated the sourcing, underwriting, and asset management on more than 430 closed loan transactions between 2012 and 2020, including 15 successfully completed workouts.
Prior to joining RMWC, Michael was a top-performing financial advisor at a leading financial services firm.
Michael holds a Masters of Professional Studies in Real Estate from Georgetown University with a concentration in Development. He completed the Certified Investment Manager Analyst program at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and earned his CIMA designation. Michael holds a B.S. in Biology from the University of Maryland. He is active in the Georgetown University Masters of Professional Studies Real Estate Mentor Program.
